Once read never forgotten

eBooks, the basics

What is an eBook?

An eBook is an electronic version of a book that you can download directly to your personal computer or handheld device. At present, we offer all our eBooks in PDF. You can read our PDF eBook using various reading software including, but not limited to: Adobe Reader, Foxit, xpdf, Ghostview/GSview and Okular, just to name a few. You may click here to download  Adobe Acrobat Reader for FREE.

Why should you buy ebooks?

eBooks have become very popular in recent years, books in electronic format have been receiving a lot more attention and this is partly due to the 'Green Issue' and ready availability of eBooks.

Each 'Green Leaves' product we sell falls under our Green Leaves Policy.

Readers who had never heard of an ebook two years ago are now downloading with relish and won't go anywhere without their e-reader.

Why?  Because there are a lot of benefits to reading books in electronic format, especially for the avid reader who reads three or more books per week. We know that readers may never completely give up print books, and we certainly aren't asking them to do so.  What we ask is that readers give eBooks a try, even if it is only to supplement their print collection.

Quite simply, fiction in electronic format gives readers more books for their money.  eBooks cost less to produce, so we at Wyrdwood Publications are able to pass these savings along to the consumer.  For the reader with a large appetite for new reading material and a limited budget, eBooks make perfect sense.

Get the book you want when you want it. Since you can purchase an eBook at any time of the day or night from our website, you never have to wait to obtain our new releases or titles on your reading 'wish list'.  Aside from 24 hour availability, eBooks save you a trip to the bookstore, or shipping costs if you placed an order online.

As you know, we live in a world of dwindling resources. Print books require paper, ink, and energy (fuel, etc) for production and shipping.  For readers who want to do their part in conserving our environment, eBooks are absolutely the greenest way to read.

Many avid readers often complain that they don't have enough room to store their massive book collection.  What if you could have one bookshelf for your 'must keep' books that you will read again and again, while the remainder of your collection is conveniently stored on your computer, e-reader, or on disk?  eBooks make this possible.

Electronic readers have come a long way in recent years.  Large, easy to read screens, font re-sizing capabilities, longer battery life, and more storage capacity have made these devices much more universally appealing.  E-readers allow you to carry your eBook collection with you wherever you go.  Forget about a suitcase bogged down with books on your next vacation.  With an e-reader, you can carry your entire collection in your pocket.

Can I print my eBooks?

You can ONLY print our 'Green Leaves' eBooks because a tree is planted for each one sold. Most eBook sellars don't allow you to print or copy eBooks due to copyright restrictions.

Am I allowed to email an eBook to a friend?

No, sorry. Again, eBooks are restricted by copyrights and cannot be shared.

eBook Formats and Readers

What are the Formats and which Reader do I use?

eBooks don't exist in just one format. There are several formats on the market and every one of them needs its own program (reader software is free!) with which you can read the books.

The following file endings are quite common:

.doc files - Microsoft Word, WordPad

.html files - Internet Browser

.prc files - Mobipocket

.kml files - Hiebook

.lit files - Microsoft Reader

.rb files - Rocket eBook

.exe files - Instant eBooks

.pdf files - Adobe's Acrobat Reader, Foxit, xpdf, Ghostview/GSview, Okular and many more.

.rtf files - universal Format, text programmes

.pdb files - Pocket PC, Palm Pilots

.txt files - Opened on any system

Here is a more detailed explanation of the only format offered by Wyrdwood Publications, at present:

Adobe PDF

eBooks, which have been converted into PDF (Portable Document Format) can be read using any operating system. This format, from the company Adobe, has established itself on the net as a standard form of exchanging documents. These eBooks can only be displayed with Adobe Reader, the only reader software which reads PDFs.

Platform: Windows PC Computer, Windows Tablet, Macintosh Computer, Linux Computer, Unix Computer, Palm OS PDA

Available to download free here: Adobe Acrobat Reader

Why do you only support PDF?

Currently, the PDF format is the most widely available and reliably supported eBook format and the format most used by our authors and customers.

If and when other formats, other than PDF, establish themselves sufficiently we will consider offering them as well.
