FAQ

~ Why eBooks?

When I first decided to expand my publishing business from the free online newspaper The Pagan Activist, I considered using a print on demand (POD) company and publish print books. As I studied this area extensively, I found that the best POD company was also very non-environmentally friendly, using virgin fibres and not recycled and they also use chemical inks. Both of these methods were unacceptable to my beliefs as a Pagan/Heathen.

I continued to look around and although there were some other POD companies that use recycled paper and soy inks, their prices were way too high to be viable.

Then I hit on the idea of eBooks, no virgin fibres to worry about, no chemical inks and indeed no transportation or storage, which uses a lot of energy and produces toxins.

eBooks are the all round winner for people who love to read but also love Mother Nature.

~ Why plant a tree?

During my research phase, I realised that for too long book lovers have ignored where their books come from. Indeed, people rarely even associate books with trees!

Just ‘Google’ deforestation and you will find information like these quotes below and much, much more!

In recent times, paper production has played a role in changing the world in other ways. The book industry alone required 3 million to 4 million tons of paper over just the last three years, which translates into the consumption of a lot of trees—at least 60 million worldwide, according to the nonprofit Green Press Initiative (GPI), including wood harvested in some of Earth’s most sensitive ecosystems, the Canadian boreal forest and the Indonesian rain forest among them.

‘With the GPI reporting that the paper industry emits the fourth-highest level of C02 among manufacturers, these are not numbers the book industry can ignore, as there is widespread evidence of a correlation between the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere and global temperatures.’

As a Pagan/Heathen I simply cannot add to this deforestation by creating more print books, so by publishing eBooks and planting trees I feel Wyrdwood Publications is helping to work towards a better future for us all.

~ Why isn’t every eBook you sell a ‘Green Leaves’ eBook?

My goal is to have every eBook I sell a ‘Green Leaves’ eBook. The cost of each tree planted for our ‘Green Leaves’ eBooks is taken from my percentage of the sale after the author has been paid. I do this because I believe we should put something back to the very environment that sustains us.

Obviously, the more eBooks we sell the more eBooks will be ‘upgraded’ to ‘Green Leaves’ eBooks and have trees planted.

So the more you buy from us, the more we can do to help the environment and deforestation.

~  How do I know my payment information is safe?

I cannot see your payment information at any stage of a sale and as I only accept payments through PayPal (although you don’t have to have an account with Paypal to pay through them), they guarantee your information’s safety. Paypal process thousands of dollars every minute, so they have to ensure your privacy to keep their business going!

~ Will you be getting a bigger variety of eBooks?

Yes, we are working very hard to bring new eBooks to you.

Every day we are negotiating with authors and potential authors, reading proposals for eBooks, reading manuscripts for possible publication and working on publishing successful manuscripts.

We have several new eBooks in various stages of development.

~ Why do you only publish Pagan/Heathen eBooks?

There are many, many publishers of general print books in the world. There are many publishers of Pagan/Heathen print books too, but most of these are not independent or environmentally friendly.

There are very few eBook publishers (inherently environmentally friendly) who are independent AND specialize in Pagan/Heathen subject matter, hence why I decided to create Wyrdwood Publications. To me Pagan/Heathens should be looking after the environment, how many folks claim that ‘Nature is their Church’? Or that they ‘worship nature’?

Specializing in Pagan/Heathen fiction and non-fiction eBooks, makes me feel that I am ‘walking the talk’. I am publishing information of interest to my fellow Pagans and Heathens and showing the world that we, as Pagans, can do some good in this world.

~ Do you take submissions?

We are always looking for new authors, so if you want to be published or know someone that does, please take a look at our Submission Guidelines below.

We are also happy to take on unpublished authors and authors without agents, something that standard print companies rarely, if ever, want to do.
